Columbus Crew beats Club Deportivo Saprissa

Ok I’m not exactly a die hard fan of the MLS.. nor am I a huge fan of the UNAFUT. But I am very glad a team from the MLS managed to beat a team from any Latin American country. It’s something that very rarely happens, given the fact that soccer is not exactly the United States’ number one sport, and they aren’t really the best at it. But they won.

With this win over CD Saprissa, the Crew are now in second place in their group, behind Mexico’s Cruz Azul in the CONCACAF Champions League. The “Morados” (Spanish for purple, the color of Saprissa’s uniform) are definitely not happy after having lost to a team in the MLS.

All is not lost for the Costa Rican team. There’s still a ways to go before the CONCACAF Champions League really gets on the move. Isleños from Puerto Rico doesn’t seem like it’ll be doing very well, so there’s one less team to worry about. Cruz Azul is the only real team to worry about here, as they beat out the Crew 5-0 not long ago.

Whatever. They face each other again on the 29th. It’ll be a fun game to catch, and you can bet Saprissa fans will keep their eyes open for this one.
